Chimoio is a sibling of the cities around the beautiful tropical coastline of Mozambique, edged with its perfectly scattered palm trees. There are fifty beaches in Chimoio, most of them located on the south-west coast. The dry season (mid-May to early-August) is the best time to visit Chimoio, and is peak tourist season. Throughout this time, the occupants of the city adorn the streets with multi-coloured robes and take part in live music and dance festivals. For a summer beach holiday (December - February), the waters are peaceful and warm, rarely dropping below 24 degrees Celsius. You might want to pack light for this time of year as the evenings are quite cool light shirts, pants and lose fitting clothes are recommended. The best time for diving is during winter (June – August). The winds are subtle and the sea is more tranquil, with over a thousand sea life creatures to be encountered. There are fewer crowds in public spaces and getting around in the city is very easy.

Chimoio is a very important city for Mozambique and Zimbabwe, acting as a passageway for Beira and Harare. This is because the city of Chimoio is built up and around a railway and road system which connects the two cities.
Remarkably the city is extremely well organized, having its own airstrip. The Revue River is nearby and is a hydro-electric power plant, which generates the city’s power. The surrounding agricultural land produces a large variety of the city’s vegetation. All of the upgraded infrastructure and agriculture has created a lot of career opportunities and is the main reason for Zimbabweans wanting to relocate to Mozambique.
A must see is the gigantic and beautiful Lake Chicamba, about a 40-minute drive to the west of Chimoio. At the lake, you can engage in canoeing out and spot crocodiles that inhabit the lake. About a 10-minute drive north-east of Chimoio is the popular rock formation called: ‘face of the old man’. It is a rock that resembles the face of a man.
